Grant money is helping scientists try to come up with alternative energy. The grant money was provided to a Kentucky university, where a new research facility dedicated in October boasts laboratories that have been described as state of the art. The research facility is known as CRAFT, which stands for the Center for Renewable and Alternative Fuel Technologies. Be sure to read about single mother grants.
The Defense Logistics Agency is providing the grant money, which amounts to $6 million. The research to be carried out with it involves finding ways to transform grasses into sugars that can be a viable part of producing fuel. Congressman Ben Chandler who attended the CRAFT dedication, noted that the development of renewable energy sources is important to the environmental and economic future of the country.
When it comes to research efforts at universities, grants can also be critical. Another Federal Grant – this one for $1.35 million and from the National Institutes of Health’s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute – was provided this year to a Florida university where there is a college of osteopathic medicine. The grant comes at a time when baby boomers are aging and the healthcare industry is expected to grow. The grant money is to be used to help improve what’s known as “health literacy” – or helping patients understand and become more active with their health care, according to an announcement by that college. There is a lot to be learned about online degree grant.
Still other research projects are smaller scale, though equally important. Dr. Jennifer Shewmaker, an associate professor of psychology and director of school psychology training at a Christian university in Abilene, Texas, for example is researching the ways that sexualized messages can affect children. In the three years that Shewmaker has been conducting the research, she has in part come up with some of the primary influences on children, including family, celebrities and religion. Her work is to continue, thanks to a grant from the Christian Scholars Foundation that works to encourage scholars to incorporate Christian faith into their academic efforts.
Another grant, this one for $1.3 million, is helping scientists in Ohio conduct research over the next four years that could enhance gene therapy, drug development and more. The National Institutes of Health provided the grant for research at the Ohio university. There Dr. Nocles Leontis, Dr. Craig Zirbel and doctoral students Anton Petrov and James Roll are continuing research that’s been ongoing for some 10 years, an announcement from the institution suggested. Do some research and find out all of the information there is about financial aid scholarships.
It’s grant money too that’s helping a university in Arizona to “reinvent” pre-K to graduate school education. Entrepreneur and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford has provided this institution with $18.9 million. The institution plans in part to put its grant money toward an effort involving Teach for America, a non-profit organization, where graduates are being trained to provide instruction in areas that are considered under-served.
Last year, a school in Arizona was the recipient of a $33.8 million grant. This grant money was provided to a Professional Development School program at the institution that also involves Teachers College students. The grant, provided by the federal government is to help the program expand to the point where, according to what an ASU Magazine article suggested, the number of participating program school districts and 250 students could increase.
Students aren’t the only applicants for grants, even if the Pell Grant is among the best known when it comes to colleges and universities. The institutions that they attend apply for and receive grants as well, in some instances converting them to scholarships to help students pay for tuition. Scholarship recipients who obtain their degrees and move into careers where they help others, and those who through the help of grant money work in ways that help society, are helping to ensure that that money reaches well beyond them and the college or university they attend.
