Illinois-based company Coskata Inc. received a guarantee for a $250 million loan from the USDA to help build a refinery plant that will turn wood and plant waste into ethanol nearTuscaloosa Alabama. The plant will produce around 55 million gallons of the biofuel each year. About 700 jobs will be created once production at the plant begins.
There was a groundbreaking Thursday for a new data center near Phoenix that’s being called the biggest construction project in Arizona, and it will bring hundreds of new jobs to the area. “It’s a great place to do business, so we’re very excited to be growing here,” said David Caron with Digital Realty Trust.
An official with the Glasgow, Kentucky, Sitel Operating Corp. call center is expecting about 1,500 people to turn out for job fairs next week, when the company plans to hire 500 or more people.
Indianapolis Logistics firm Backhaul Direct LLC will invest $1.7 million to grow its downtown operation, adding nearly 325 new jobs over the next four years. State officials announced the expansion plans Thursday morning. Founded in 2004, the company manages transportation and distribution of freight across the United States and overseas.
The month of December saw a surge in jobs across Texas. 20,000 jobs were added for a total of more than 200,000 new jobs since last January. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, almost 600 jobs available right now in Abilene. Steve Collins of the Texas Workforce Commission told KTXS, “We’re in talks right now with a company who will be in need of some construction workers, truck drivers, assemblers, and welders within the coming weeks.”
